In the simplest terms AuthSMTP is an outgoing SMTP email server, it can be used to send email from any program, application or device that can connect to an SMTP server and authenticate with a username and password.

There are some key differences from the SMTP server that your ISP may provide:

  • You can send from all of your email addresses without changing any settings, if you can receive email to the address you can send from it using our service
  • AuthSMTP is authenticated on a username and password so you can use it from almost all Internet connections including your home or office cable / broadband, mobile connection or public Wifi
  • We actively monitor and maintain the reputation of our service to help prevent your email being blacklisted, rejected or filtered
  • AuthSMTP is custom designed for sending email so the performance and availability may be significantly greater than the generic SMTP servers provided by Internet Service Providers.

Multiple 'From' Addresses & Domains

You can use AuthSMTP to send from all of your email addresses, as long as you can receive email to an address you can send from it using our service.

As a security feature all from addresses or domain names have to be validated on your account before you start sending, to validate an email address we simply send an email to the address in question with a validation web link, once you have clicked the link the address is automatically added to you account.

If you or your organisation have your own domain name you can validate it as a wildcard which means you can send from any address '@' that domain name, we offer alternative methods of authorising whole domain names using DNS or HTML files.

Authorising an email address or domain name on an AuthSMTP account only allows your account to send from that address, it does not allow others to send from your domain name.

Optional SSL / TLS Support

You can choose to send your emails to our network using SSL, this basically means that an encrypted connection is created between your computer or program and our network.

SSL is not enabled by default but can easily be enabled at anytime through our control panel - for more information about SSL please see - Do you support SSL encrypted connections?

Virus Scanning

All email sent though AuthSMTP are scanned using a well regarded and widely used anti-virus engine that is regularly updated.

For the benefit of all users this feature cannot be disabled - any messages that are found to contain malicious content will be rejected and a notification will be sent back to you to explain why the message was rejected.

This protects your account and helps prevent you from inadvertently sending a virus to your family, friends, colleagues or clients - it is not a replacement for having up-to date anti-virus software on your computer and we encourage everyone to ensure they have sufficient protection from viruses and malicious software.

Email Duplication / Backup

We offer an email duplication feature with all accounts, this allows you to configure an email address of your choice that will receive silent copies of all emails sent through your AuthSMTP account.

Multiple Concurrent Connections

Most email programs can only send 1 message at a time but some programs or applications have support for concurrent connections, this allows them to open multiple connections to our service and send more messages at the same time, this is particularly useful if you are sending a high number of messages or messages that need to be delivered to all the recipients within a specific timescale.

We allow up to a maximum of 5 simultaneous connections - if your software supports this you will also need an Internet connection with sufficient bandwidth to support the connections, we recommend that you increment the number in stages to find the best level for your software and connection.

Shared or dedicated IP Address

By default all accounts at level AuthSMTP 25 or over are allocated their own dedicated IP address which all your email will be routed out through, accounts less than AuthSMTP 25 will use IP addresses that are shared with other users.

A dedicated IP address can help with deliverability if you are sending a large volume of email and can provide a benefit if you want to tightly control the source of your emails.

A shared IP address is a lower cost option for low volume senders while still using IP addresses that have an established positive reputation with other email providers. It is important to note that we actively monitor the reputation of our network and any user that is having a negative impact on that will be removed from the service.

Flexible Instant Quota Upgrades

You can login to the control panel at anytime and instantly upgrade your account.

This can be until your account expiry date or you can choose to boost your account just for the current quota month, this gives you great flexibility if your quota requirements are likely to vary month to month.

Choice of alternative SMTP Ports

Many ISPs block the default SMTP port 25 on consumer and business Internet connections which would prevent you from sending to an external SMTP server, this is typically an anti-spam measure and is very common.

To resolve this issue we provide a number of alternative SMTP ports which you can connect to:

  • 23
  • 25 (not recommended)
  • 26
  • 325 (non-SSL only)
  • 2525
  • 465 (SSL only)

50MB Maximum Email Size

We provide a function in the control panel that allows you to alter the maximum message size that can be sent through your account, this has two uses:

  • If you have a number of users sending email on your account you can limit the maximum message size to a low level to prevent one user sending lots of large messages and using up your quota
  • If you need to send emails with large attachments you can increase the message size limit up to the maximum of 50 Megabytes

This can be changed at anytime via the control panel.

Works with almost all email programs

The vast majority of email programs will work with AuthSMTP, if it has an option to enter an SMTP server with a username and password it will generally work.
