Yes! Although we cannot guarantee your chosen username will be available and there are certain restrictions on the user names and passwords you can use to help ensure compatibility and better security!
This feature was added as some (mostly simpler or older) email programs require the username and password you use for SMTP (outgoing mail) to be the same as your POP3 (incoming mail) username and password.
If your email program will allow (as most current ones do) you to use the standard username and password we allocated when you account was setup we would recommend you use these as they are more secure than using the same details for both incoming and outgoing mail.
To change your username / password - login to the AuthSMTP Control Panel.
If you do need to change your username and / or password it must follow these guidelines:
| User Name | Password | |||
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Minimum Length : | 4 | 4 | ||
| Maximum Length : | 20 | 20 | ||
| Allowed Characters : | a-z A-Z 0-9 - _ : | a-z A-Z 0-9 - _ ! : [ ] + . | ||
| Case Sensitive : | Yes | Yes |
For more information about choosing secure password see: What username / password should I use?
We have been asked a number of times if we can support the '@' and '/' or '\' symbols in the AuthSMTP user name - we have investigated this however, we cannot currently support it.
