Subscription email needs an obvious way to stop future messages. The link should work without requiring the recipient to remember an account password or explain their decision.
Make suppression reliable
- Use a recipient-specific, tamper-resistant unsubscribe link.
- Keep the link operational for a suitable period.
- Process requests immediately where practical and before another mailing.
- Synchronise suppression across applications and suppliers.
- Retain enough suppression data to prevent accidental re-import.
- Use
List-Unsubscribeand one-click headers where applicable.
Preference options can be useful, but they must not obscure a complete opt-out. The exact statutory timeframe varies; AuthSMTP customers must also follow our Acceptable Usage Policy.
Offer a clear one-step unsubscribe, suppress promptly and ensure imports cannot silently reactivate the address.
Unsubscribe a controlled test address, then re-run the next list import and campaign selection to prove that the address stays suppressed.
