Pocket PC devices run a simpler version of Microsoft Outlook (Pocket Outlook). This does support SMTP authentication but it does not let you specify a separate username and password to connect to the SMTP mail server.
Note: The newer versions of Pocket Outlook (on Windows Mobile 6.x) does let you specify a SMTP username / password so changing your AuthSMTP username should not be required.
To solve this you will need to change your AuthSMTP username and password to match your POP3 or IMAP username and password - this can be done quickly and easily via the Control Panel. There are a few restrictions on the allowable username and password - see: Can I change my password - for more details.
On this 'Server Information page there is also an option to set 'Domain' - this must be left blank - it should not be required for most incoming mail servers and will not work with AuthSMTP. The reason for this is if you set your username as 'john' - if you set the domain to 'office' it will login with the username: office\john (i.e. domain\username).
Another option to consider is using an alternative email program on your Pocket PC - there are quite a few and many have additional / more advanced features!
